Land purchase takes OTB towards developing Liverpool’s first ever sports park

5 February 2007

Liverpool based developer Out the Box Concepts (OTB) has announced that it has successfully purchased 30 acres of land within the Netherley area of North Liverpool from Liverpool City Council for its unique Liverpool Sports Park complex.

The agreement to sell the former Lee Manor comprehensive school site was made at the Council’s Executive Board on 22 December 2006 and puts OTB one step further towards realising its £10 million sports park complex.

The Sports Park - described by OTB as being similar to “A day time Centre Parcs” - will when completed be Liverpool’s first dedicated family sports and leisure facility.

Planning for the complex will be submitted in the next few weeks and subject to approval the development will be able to start on site immediately.

When completed in 2008 the Liverpool Sports Park – into which OTB is investing £2.2million in the central hub of the complex with the leisure operators providing the rest of the funding - will be a world class facility that will comprise of a wide array of top quality sporting and outdoor facilities including:

The Liverpool Sports Park will create 150 locally accessible jobs. It will also work closely with the schools and universities that will be able to enjoy off peak usage that will support their vocational needs.

Chris Bennett, co - director of OTB said:

“I am local – from Allerton - and wanted to bring the first of these parks to Liverpool - my home city. This is going to be a major boost not only to the immediate area of Netherley but also to Liverpool and the rest of the North West and I have to thank the Liverpool City Council and the Local Councillors for their tremendous support.”

OTB co - director Jonathan Snellgrove added:

“It is worth mentioning that during the research on this project we discovered that studies have found that similar projects in the North East have shown a 70% reduction in anti-social behaviour. If we can do the same or better for Liverpool with the introduction of the Sports Parks then I feel that is one of the most positive things to have been achieved by this project.”

OTB has already attracted the interest of a number of interested sports, retail and leisure operators for all aspects of the Liverpool Sports Park and is interested in speaking with any further interested parties about the scheme.
