Former GVA Grimley agent Roy Backhouse goes it alone

17 November 2008

Former GVA Grimley Merseyside property agent Roy Backhouse has announced that he has set up his own property consultancy – Roy Backhouse Co Chartered Surveyors.

Following on from being made redundant Backhouse left property agent GVA Grimley's Liverpool office just over one week ago and wasted no time in setting up himself up his own fledgling company, launching Roy Backhouse Co. just two days later.

Despite having only been in business for just over one week he now jointly handles part of developer Langtree's commercial industrial and office portfolio on Merseyside; Wellington Employment Park South industrial scheme, Venture Point West industrial site, Alchemy in Knowsley, and Connect Business Village in north Liverpool.

Mr Backhouse, who also has several other clients on his books, ranging from national to local companies, all of which appreciate the local expertise he can offer. He had been at GVA for more than two years, as director industrial agency. The new company will cover industrial, office and some retail space across Merseyside.

Mr Backhouse said his redundancy was proof the market had slowed and he admitted that the market is now dictating more flexible terms be agreed on deals across all sectors. Realistic landlords are doing deals.

Speaking about his new venture Roy Backhouse said:
"I am optimistic that Roy Backhouse & Co will thrive despite the downturn. I know the Merseyside market very well and I intend to specialise in Merseyside. Deals have slowed down but not stopped altogether. You've just got to work harder for it.

It's a case of getting out there and continuing to do what I've done for the last 15 years in Liverpool."
